Coenzyme Q10 is involved in energy production.  It is an essential part of the mitochondria, which are the energy-producing parts of cells.  As such, it is particularly important in very metabolically active tissues of the body, particularly heart tissue.  It also acts as an antioxidant in cell membranes.
